What it does
Three ways to make a signature
Draw it with a mouse, finger or pen, type your name in a script face, or import a PNG. A photo of a signature on white paper works too: the white background is made transparent. Signatures and initials stay in the session, or on this device if you opt in.
Fields you can actually adjust
Drag to move, pull a corner to resize, duplicate onto the next page, undo and redo. Text and date fields use the same font on screen and in the exported file, so the placement you see is the placement you get, in Latin and Cyrillic.
The original stays intact
Fields are written on top of the existing pages with pdf-lib. Text underneath stays vector and selectable, page sizes, links and form fields are kept, and nothing is rasterised. You download a copy named “-signed.pdf”; the file you opened is never changed.
About PDF InkPad
PDF InkPad is a free tool for signing and filling PDF documents in the browser. It opens the file with pdf.js, shows every page, and lets you place a signature, initials, text, a date or a checkmark exactly where the document needs them. When you download, those fields are written into a copy of the original PDF with pdf-lib: the text underneath stays searchable, the page sizes do not change, and nothing is turned into a picture. It suits contracts, lease agreements, consent forms, applications and any other PDF with a line waiting for a signature.
What sets it apart from most “sign a PDF online” services is where the work happens. Here the PDF, the signature images and the finished file are handled by JavaScript inside your browser tab. There is no upload, no account, no server that keeps your documents and no email link to wait for. Once the page has loaded it works offline, and you can check that yourself by switching the network off before opening a file. A signature made this way is a simple electronic signature under eIDAS and ESIGN, which is enough for most everyday agreements; the guides below explain when a certificate-based signature is required instead.

Is my PDF uploaded anywhere?
No. The file is read by JavaScript in your browser tab: pdf.js draws the pages, pdf-lib writes the signed copy, and the download comes from memory on your own device. There is no server that receives the document, no account and no analytics. After the page has loaded once you can switch the network off and everything keeps working.
Can I save my signature for next time?
Yes, if you ask for it. Signatures and initials live in the session by default and disappear when you close the tab. Tick “Remember my signatures on this device” in the side panel and they are kept in your browser's local storage, which nothing else can read. Untick it and the stored copies are removed at once.
Does Cyrillic text work in text and date fields?
Yes. Text is written with an embedded copy of Noto Sans, which covers Latin, Greek and Cyrillic, including Ukrainian, Kazakh and Serbian letters. The same font is used on screen, so the width and position you see are what ends up in the file. Characters outside those scripts (emoji, Chinese, Arabic) are not available; the export tells you if a field contains them.
Is the page size or the rest of the document changed?
No. The signed copy is the original PDF with a few extra drawing instructions appended to the pages you edited. Page sizes, rotation, vector text, links, bookmarks and existing form fields are kept as they were, and nothing is rasterised. The file usually grows by the size of the signature images plus a subset of the text font.
Can the signature be removed from the PDF later?
The signature is written into the page content, not as a form field or annotation, so it cannot be switched off or unticked in a viewer — in that sense it is already “flattened”. Like any content in a PDF, though, it can be removed by someone with an editing tool, and nothing in the file proves who added it or when. If you need tamper evidence, the document has to be signed with a digital certificate as well; our guide on drawn versus certificate signatures explains the difference.
Is there a maximum file size?
There is no fixed limit; the practical ceiling is your device's memory. Pages are rendered one at a time, so a 300-page contract opens as quickly as a one-page form, and only the thumbnails are drawn in the background. Heavy scanned PDFs (several hundred megabytes) take longer to open and to export, but they work on a normal laptop.
Can I draw my signature on a phone?
Yes. The drawing area responds to a finger or a stylus, and the strokes are smoothed so a signature made on a small screen still looks natural. Turning the phone sideways gives you a wider area. If drawing on glass never looks right, type your name instead, or photograph your signature on white paper and import it: the white background is removed automatically.
Is a signature made here legally valid?
A drawn or typed signature placed on a PDF is a simple electronic signature. Under the EU eIDAS regulation it cannot be refused as evidence just because it is electronic, and under the US ESIGN Act a symbol adopted with the intent to sign is a valid signature. That covers most everyday contracts, forms and agreements. Some documents — notarial acts, certain real-estate and family-law papers, filings that require a qualified signature — need a certificate-based signature or a wet-ink one; the first guide below goes through the cases.
What happens to a PDF that already has a digital certificate signature?
You can open it and add visual fields, but the exported copy is rewritten by pdf-lib rather than appended as an incremental update, so the existing certificate signature will be reported as invalid by Acrobat and other validators. If a document needs both, place the visual signatures first and have the certificate signature applied last. Encrypted PDFs, even ones that open without a password, are refused at export because their content cannot be rewritten safely.
